There’s a lot of comics artists, aspiring and professional, here in the Philippines. A lot of them are looking for work abroad through the Internet, and more often than not, that’s you reading right now.

I found out about this scam through Rich Johnston’s Bleeding Cool Forums, at these specific topics here:

The way I understand it, this person would either approach you to “represent” you as his agent, or be your “writer” or pretend to be actually you, and accept assignments from companies or individuals for commissions. He would then ask you to do the work, submit a few pages to the company, asked to be paid in full, and then disappear, leaving both you and the company in the dirt.

Be cautious who you deal with online. Before accepting any assignment, search fastidiously online for information about this person you are dealing with. How would you know if he is pretending to be someone else? Look for *other* contact info online. Many pros are on Facebook and Twitter or MySpace. Contact them there to confirm who they are.

This is why it’s very important now for a Filipino comic book artist to be typically street smart online. The Internet is a great place to find jobs in comics, but it’s also a place where you can get scammed big time.

It was awesome! Really. Where do you get your free comicbooks when it's not your birthday or something...uhm, yeah. You get my point. So anyway, it was awesome! I got me a bag of goodies. Blue Beetle #1, House of M #1, Justice #1, Dark Days #1, The Maxx #2, House of M: Astonishing X-Men/New Avengers, Mighty Avengers 21, Spawn #11 and Fantastic Four #60. I really loved my Blackest Night 0, The Avengers FCBD Special, House of M Sketchbook and Project Superpowers Sketchbook by Alex Ross. I also bought the 2nd issue of Bayan Knights! It was thick! I still have to read it. (It should've been free! HAHAHAHA) It was a fine read! Go to Summer Komikon at May 16 for the official release of the book! And get a free hug from ~rhiver. SUP RHIVS

They had a raffle! Sadly I didn't win. They were giving away TPB's! Man! It was my second Free Comic Book Day, by the way. I still have a journal kept in this site about the first one if you're interested. Last time, I brought home almost over 50 books! Haha! Yes, we were the kids that abused that day.

I was with ~discordia24(Where she was stunned to see so many geeks, it was her first time), ~onetwopunch and =Adykted! When we arrived, the first one who greeted me was ~wrathofkhan! Man! Being greeted by your idol was really something. Really something. ~gioparedes was there selling his comics with the pro's! Somewhere on the line, I saw =nerp ~j4ever and ~offshore241 but I as shy to greet them. I'm a shy person, people. Oh wait, I remember greeting Nerp! ~astigingboyipis was also there! He introduced me to ~vinarci, it turns out we are both shy. Ahaha. To those people who were there and know who I am and didn't greet me, it's fine, I understand. We are all shy. I also even know some and maybe I even know you by DA usernames but, yeah. It's the "I can't greet you if I don't know you vise-versa" thing. Understood. Haha! Uhhhh, I took some photos. I think I'll upload it in my Multiply account. Most of them are blurred. Maybe because the day was so fast it was just a blur.

So. The pro's are there! ~leinilyu, *guisadong-gulay, ~edtadeo. ~tagasanpablo, ~gammaknight, ~Budjette, *batangbatugan, ~MCornelius, ~boysoltero and ~harveytolibao. They were are the ones whom I remember. Haha! Oh my pathetic memory. I also wanted a sketch from them but due to shyness, I wasn't able to get some.

Uhm. We got our comicbooks. Delivered BK Sketchcards to Sir Gilbert. (Note to BK: Guys nakay sir GM na yung sketchcards natin, wag na kayo maghanap sakin though pagkelangan pa ng copies just feel free to text me in this number 0906*******, okays?) There. Then we watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Don't get me started on that one.
